A Little Rant & Giving Something Back

Well I haven't had much luck at all with hospitals over the last fortnight. I have been so stressed with chasing people I think the less said the better as I don't want my heart to freak out on me again! I want this to be a short happy post so, to keep you in the loop as it were, I am attending the pre op assessment appointment at St Mary's hospital next Thursday, which my friend Hayley has very kindly taken time off work, arranged childcare & offered to take me as I have no other way of getting there. I have a huge feeling that it could all be another waste of time but have been told by the hospital themselves that I need to attend & the appointment could last anywhere between 1-3 hours.

I have also booked a clinic appointment for Harefield for the week after so it's going to be more days of exhausting travelling but hey ho, needs must. I still have no idea when the operation is likely to be, I have been told there is a 6 week window from the date of your pre-op to have your procedure done else they'll have to get you in for another asssessment. As you know I am supposed to be a urgent case (although it hasn't felt like it) so who knows, I'll just have to take each & every day as it comes.

Health wise I have remained the same pretty much, I've started to get more productive with coughing & bringing up rubbish, bit sniffly too but it's not worrying me particularly. My weight is up & down like a yo-yo which is quite confusing, I have no idea if it's my scales or the high dose pred but I'm just getting on with things until I know this dam op is out of the way. I had a osteoporosis appointment on Monday, my bones are extremely thin now & I need to have another infusion but as the fundo op is more important I have to wait until after this is done, until then I have been told not to slip in the rain or even go out when its icey because if I fall I could break my hip.... Hmmmm, fun times! I have had quiet days at home & a few days here & there seeing my closest friends which has been really nice, some of which I didn't see over the entire summer holidays what with my heart scare & other things, so was really nice for catch up's & to see how fast their little ones have grown. We don't do anything too strenuous but it still seems to exhaust me come the late afternoon.

As you know, I have wanted to do something for charity for ages, I am not the sporty type whatsoever, & I certainly can't even think about running a marathon or cycling to Newquay right now. Ideally I would love to be abe to do something with my snake babies but because of health & safety laws / insurances etc it just isn't possible. I have been racking my little sweetcorn kernal of a brain for weeks & came up with a little idea to try... I am a massive kid at heart & love Halloween & Christmas. I thought about creating a 'kit' with a few items in for primary school aged children, to enjoy the Halloween festivies. Thing's like bunting, a trick or treat bag for their sweeties & an alternative pumpkin... I put the idea out there on facebook & had quite a bit of positive feedback from friends who said they would buy them for their little monsters, this made me all the more determined & very excited about endless possibilites.

So now I am in the middle of creating these packs, from now until the week before Halloween which is keeping me busy. I am however, only making a limited number for the moment. I will be selling them on a first come, first serve basis as some of the stuff I have already sourced has restricted me with numbers & as I am paying for all the materials / items out of my own pocket (which is as shallow as it comes!) I want them to do well & sell quickly first so it isn't a waste. The proceeds from selling my bags will go directly to EDCF - Quality Of Life Fund who has helped me so much over the last few years. I just really wanted to say thank you & give something back you know???

I am meeting my lovely Nicki who made my wedding dress on Monday to talk business, she is very kindly helping me out with her seamstress skills.... My friend Hayley is helping with socks, one of my nurses from back when I was knee high to a grass hopper on Lousia Cary Ward is doing something creative with balls! And the rest well, I really hope to make these packs quite special.... I will be taking pictures a long the way & let you know when they are up for sale with the contents listed & everyone who has helped out with them. (Thank you so much to the ladies above) As I said, there will be limited numbers but I'll keep you posted with my progress, IF they do well, I hope to make some Christmas ones & make even more .....

too low & his eyes were glued on coz I ran out
of thread  but not bad since I haven't used a
needle & thread since I was 14?!)

So that's about it for now, until my road trip with Hayley on Thursday (which should be interesting hey love!) I think my time will be filled up with nebs / meds & all things Halloween. Maybe fitting a few special people in here & there if I can, but the bugs have already started flying about & it's not even October! I love the winter but I hate the fact people catch so many lurgies, makes being immueno suppressed quite lonely at times, but then again, I wouldn't have it any other way - If it wasn't for my hero I wouldn't be here writing this to you today!

Hope you all have a great weekend, ta for now...

London, Longleat & Stuck In Limbo....

I can't sleep yet again & as I was tossing & turning It came across my mind that I hadn't blogged & updated you guys in a little while. I'll keep it quite brief being the middle of the night & all but just thought I would touch base with you guys....

I'll start with the boring frustrating bits first! Last Monday I was up at Harefield again, I haven't got any worse (thank my lucky stars) but I am still no better. I saw the lovely Dr Carby in clinic & as I thought not too much could be said, we all know I am just waiting for the fundo op to hopefully improve things or at least keep me stablised. The high dose pred is thankfully keeping me stable at the moment, I am able to do my stairs & hardly have any productive cough so I am realy grateful for that, but the more days pass the more I feel reflux bubbling away & I know my lung function just isn't getting any better. I had another echo for my heart too which is showing one of my valve's is leaking, I am not 100% what this means or what can be done, but my dr said he would be in touch with the cardio specialist & get back to me should I require further treatment. With regards to the fundo, St Mary's had been in touch & asked me to attend an outpatients appointment on Wednesday of last week (so I had Harefield Monday, Paddington, Wednesday) I got myself all stressed out as couldn't get hospital transport for that day & I didn't want Stef to take a day off unpaid for what I thought would be a waste of time (which I was right...) After arranging to get there & back in one piece I was absolutely gutted to only be in the room for ten minutes & to be told that I would also need to come back once again for a pre op appointment before my actual operation... I don't blame the doctors at all, but I just wish that sometimes the communication would be better. I don't think they understand sometimes just how far people have to travel, the toll the long journeys take on our body & mind & the finanical implications.

Monday I was up at 3.30am & got in about 10pm, Wednesday I was up at 4.15am & finally got in at 7pm.... For a ten minute slot in the hospital. I could have cried. I am still none the wiser as to when the operation will be, I have emailed my consultant at Harefield to see if the pre op can be done else where but I have not yet heard anything back so will chase later on this week. Another trip for possibly an hours pre op quite frankly scares the crap out of me, I can't afford to keep going up & down willy nilly & the stress of the journey over all completely takes it out of you....

Other than getting vexed over hospital & medical issues I haven't been up to a great deal, simply because I feel like I am stuck in limbo & actually can't do as much as I would like.

We did however, take a very spontaneous trip to Longleat on the last bank holiday of the year with Stefan's brother, fiancee & our gorgeous nephew Jack. It really tired me out but I must say it was soooo worth it & we really need to try & do things like that more often. I was able to get in with my disabled & carers ticket which really helped with the overall cost of the day & we all had the best time. The sun was shining, the animals were out & it was nice to spend some time with family.

Drive Around The Safari

Jack loved the train & the water adventure park, Stef, Kelly & I enjoyed holding a spider in the petting zoo & I think Dame's favourite bit was stuffing his face with pizza at tea time ;)

Over My Fear :D

We were completely buggered by the time we left & Stef drove us home but I can honestly say it was the best day out we had had in a long time... We are trying to plan (not so far in advance as you know what sods law is like with me!) our the next trip, Chessington next year maybe around March time, with a night or 2's stay in the actual resort, so cross fingers we can make it at some point without any hitches.

Our Gorgeous Nephew Jack

The weekend just gone was really nice spending quiet, chilled out time at the house with Stef. I cooked (& ate far too much) some delicious food, sweet chilli duck legs for dinner on Saturday & a slow roast brisket of beef on the Sunday, we watched a few horror movies & had lots of time sorting out & feeding the snake babies. Very relaxed & well needed after the week we both had.

I think the whole lack of sleep business at night is where I am unable to swtich off because I am constantly thinking about what's going on, or what isn't more to the point... If you know me well enough, you know I like a plan. Hopefully, things will move forward soon, I will keep you as updated as I can. Sweetdreams for now...
